Because there are a whole lotta shows this Summer knocking on our doors, and there ain't enough time after work to binge 'em all!

Welcome to Summer 2019

Isn't it amazing that we can look forward to each new season with such excitement? Some will disappoint, but others will delight us to no end. But no matter how this season of anime turns out, expectations are high and there are so many anime to try out.

The shows I'll be covering were the ones that stood out to me, so I apologize in advance if the anime on your "must watch list" didn't make it.

So let's just jump on in and start already.

Anime Sequels

Anime sequels can be just as if not more exciting than trying something new. But of course, this all depends on what you're familiar with and are expecting going in. Sometimes an anime sequel can improve upon the quality of the past season/s... Or it will turn on us like a bad Tokyo Ghoul adaptation.

But nevermind all that!

These are the shows you love and their back for another go around!

Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? II

This light novel's adaptation is getting some more time in the spotlight, and for its fans, it's a happy return. Although the quality of the show is highly debatable, there was something about its first season that got people hooked, and this is no doubt a welcoming sight :)

Takagi-san, the Master of Teasing 2

This brief 12 episode show was welcomed as a sweet slice of life romance with two highly enjoyable lead characters. Who knew it'd be getting a second season? Okay... I guess the manga readers did, LOL. But it's always great to see such a wholesome anime comedy make a glamorous return. 

It turns out that most of the shows this Summer are brand new, so, unfortunately, this sequel section is ridiculously short, but I wanted to get those two out before moving on to the new. Enjoy your sequels! Here we go!

The New and Noteworthy

Arifureta: From Commonplace to World's Strongest

Look out! Here comes another light novel adaptation!

This looks really good if for no other reasons than the main lead is going to be severely underpowered. Here's the story:

"Seventeen-year-old Hajime Nagumo is your average, everyday otaku. However, his simple life of pulling all-nighters and sleeping in school is suddenly turned upside down when he, along with the rest of his class, is summoned to a fantasy world! They're treated like heroes and tasked with the duty of saving the human race from utter extinction. But what should have been any otaku's dream quickly turns into Hajime's nightmare. While the rest of his class are blessed with godlike powers, Hajime's job, Synergist, only has a single transmutation skill. Ridiculed and bullied by his classmates for being weak, he soon finds himself in despair. Will he be able to survive in this dangerous world of monsters and demons with only a glorified blacksmith's level of strength?"

It sounds like it'll have some of the appeals of "Rise of the Shield Hero" and we'll get to see him progressively get stronger each episode rather than come out of the gate blowing all of his enemies away. So here's hoping for another fun underdog, action adventure!

Dr. Stone

Dr. Stone's reputation is great and the anime is bound to elevate it to new heights! If anyone in the anime community likes to science than I recommend sciencing with this one. I'm not sure how accurate its science is because I haven't read any of the source material, but from what I've heard, this show is interesting, mysterious and makes for an enjoyable experience... even if you DON'T like sciencing. XD

Here's the story:

"Several thousand years after a mysterious phenomenon that turns all of humanity to stone, the extraordinarily intelligent, science-driven boy, Senku Ishigami, awakens. Facing a world of stone and the total collapse of civilization, Senku makes up his mind to use science to rebuild the world. Starting with his super strong childhood friend Taiju Oki, who awakened at the same time, they will begin to rebuild civilization from nothing..."

I have a feeling that if you enjoyed "That Time I Was Reincarnated as a Slime", this will be a must watch for you. I know it is for me! 

Fire Force

Fire force was a manga written by the same author of Soul Eater.

NEED I SAY MORE?!

Okay, personally I haven't seen Soul Eater as of yet, but the author's reputation proceeds him. Anime and manga fan have sung his praises for years, and I don't know about you, but that seems pretty convincing to me. I guess all we need to worry about now is a proper adaptation.

"Terror has paralyzed the clockwork metropolis of Tokyo! Possessed by demons, people have begun to burst into flame, leading to the establishment of a special firefighting team: the Fire Force, ready to roll on a moment's notice to fight spontaneous combustion anywhere it might break out. The team is about to get a very unique addition: Shinra, a boy who possesses the unique power to run at the speed of a rocket, leaving behind the famous "devil's footprints" (and destroying his shoes in the process). Can the Fire Force discover the source of this strange phenomenon and put a stop to it? Or will the city burn to ashes first?"

Helmed by David Production, the animation truly stands out from the promos we've been allowed to see. This one's definitely a must watch. 

Vinland Saga

Ah yes, this adaptation has been long prayed for by manga readers all over.

That's right! The myth, the legend, the most anticipated anime adaptation for manga readers this year is Vinland Saga. Honestly, where do I start with this one? Its manga has been heralded as one of the greatest fantasy epics in all of manga history, and we're all being treated to an amazing adaptation in less than a month! Seriously, find the trailer and just soak in the incredible animation! The music, the fighting choreography, and cinematography are just breath-taking. We only have the trailers to go by as far as quality, but just knowing that WIT Studios is taking care of this beloved series, I think all manga readers can rest at ease knowing they've got a great chance for excellence.

The Story:

"For a thousand years, the Vikings have made quite a name and reputation for themselves as the strongest families with a thirst for violence. Thorfinn, the son of one of the Vikings' greatest warriors, spends his boyhood in a battlefield enhancing his skills in his adventure to redeem his most-desired revenge after his father was murdered."

If you're on the fence about this one, consider this... When was the last time you've seen Vikings in an anime? It's always up to you, but this is such a fascinating culture I've never seen in this visual medium before. I encourage you to give her a go!

Astra Lost in Space

Got a hankering for kids lost in space?! Then this is the intergalactic survival show for you! Yes, this is certainly a breath of fresh air in the space genre... either that or I've been missing out on countless outer space survival shows.

Here's the Story:

"The year is 2061, when space travel is now possible and commercially viable, and the students of Caird High School embark on their Planet Camp. But soon after Group B5 arrived at their planetary campsite, a mysterious and unforeseen sentient light sphere warps its 9 members into outer space, stranding them 5012 light years away from their home planet. With the discovery of an old, unmanned spaceship nearby, the students must stay strong, manage their limited resources and remain united in the darkness of space, so that all of them can survive their long and likely perilous trek back home aboard the Astra."

Lost in space with anime? Sign me up!

To the Abandoned Sacred Beasts

This is yet another manga adaptation... and I couldn't be more excited to see it! Having a low fun budget, I don't get to try a lot of manga, but this one was one of my first purchases, and it did not disappoint! This anime will have action, character studies and a lot of creative ideas packed in. 

But never mind what I have to say, here's the synopsis:

"The democratic nation of Patria was created on the continent of Patria. Because of economic disputes, the country split north and south, creating the Northern Union of Patria and the Southern Confederation of Patria and they waged a long civil war. With their numbers dwindling, the North decides to use forbidden technology in order to defeat the South. This technology turns humans into monster-like soldiers, giving them almost godlike powers. And with those powers, the long war came to an end and peace was restored.

Incarnates. They were the heroes who saved the country and were regarded as gods. Time had passed, leaving the war behind. The people who had given up their human forms to become Incarnates were now feared by the masses due to their overwhelming power and were now called Beasts.

The former captain of the Incarnate squad, Hank, was on a journey to find his former Incarnate comrades who had turned into Beasts and was hunting them down as the Beast Hunter. A young woman named Schaal was on a journey to find the person who killed her Incarnate father. She encounters Hank and decides to go on a journey with him to discover the truth behind her father's death. She eventually finds out that the battle is never truly over."

So, basically if Fairy Gone was AMAZING and actually followed up on its promises. We've got monsters vs monsters, ex-soldiers fighting other ex-soldiers. We get a lot of insight into the cruel lives these soldiers are now forced to live post-war, and of course, we get the feels that inevitably come with it.

... And did I mention the monsters won't be CG animated? Or, at least that's what the trailers and promos have shown us. Here's hoping it stays that way the whole way through!

Are You Lost?

What do you get when four high school girls trapped on a deserted island? Sounds like a lot of fun comedic chaos to me! Honestly, this just sounds like a ball of laughs, and I can't wait to learn more.

Here's the story:

"Because of a plane crash…starting today, we're spending the springtime of our lives on a desert island!! There's nothing here, so we have to make everything!! And eat everything!! (Ugh!) Check out our high school girl survival story of courage and knowledge. We're actually doing pretty well! [Volume One Includes:] How to eat cicadas, how to build traps, a simple allergy test, how to eat hermit crabs, etc."

Have you ever played one of those island survival games? They tend to be fun and are filled with the thrill of discovery and learning know things. With this show's synopsis, you can almost imagine the crazy situations these girls will find themselves in. This one's definitely going on the list!

Cop Craft

Cop craft is one of many in the light novel field, but this is truly a stand-out, It blends fantasy and sci-fi, monsters and cops, action and criminal cases in a sweet looking anime smoothie with a Tablespoon of gritty reality. What's not to be curious about?!

Here's the story:

"15 years ago, an unknown hyperspace gate opened over the Pacific. Beyond this gate lies Reto Semaani, a strange alternate world where fairies and demons live.

San Teresa City — a city where over two million immigrants live from both worlds. As a result, there are the haves and the have-nots. Here is the world's newest "city of dreams." But in the shadow of the chaos, crime is rampant: drugs, prostitution, and weapon trafficking. The detectives who stand up to these heinous crimes are in the San Teresa City Police. When the detective Kei Matoba and the alternate-world knight Tirana — two individuals who differ in gender, personality, and even world of origin — meet, an incident erupts. Two Worlds. Two Justices. From this, the curtain rises on a buddy police action story!"

Yep, that sounds awesome.

Last but not least,

Kochoki: Wakaki Nobunaga

There isn't a lot of information out on this one yet, but what I can tell you is that it's an anime based on the life of Oda Nobunaga. Well, at least between his teens and when he became a warlord. One thing we can look forward to is the rivalry between him and his brother. This series will be made by Studio Deen, so that could be a plus, but for now, that's all we know.
