7 Favorite Anime Series from P.A. Works

Welcome readers, one and all, but especially fellow lost otakus. P.A. Works is one of the many Japanese studios that produces anime. I'd like to highlight and recommend to you these, my seven favorite series by P.A. Works. They are listed in order of least to greatest enjoyment.

7. Fairy Gone

This is a fantasy series that only just aired in spring 2019. The second season will be airing in Fall 2019. Though Fairy Gone ended up being unpopular and subpar in the eyes of the majority, a few fans like me are still around who thoroughly enjoyed the series and can't wait for more. For a description of the plot, see this link. You can also check out my posts about Fairy Gone on my other blog. Genres include fantasy, political intrigue, action, and drama.

6. Charlotte

A unique series with a moving story, Charlotte was made by Keiji Kishi, the same man who directed Clannad and Angel Beats. It features an interesting male "anti-hero" who becomes a real hero by the end. Click the link for a description of the plot. Genres are fantasy, super power, drama, and school. Maybe it seems like nothing special at first, but the sudden twists in this story will catch you by surprise.

5. Uchouten Kazoku (The Eccentric Family)

This largely unheard of series is a personal favorite of mine. Read about the plot here. You're sure to enjoy the show if you like Japanese fantasy and youkai anime mixed with slice-of-life. It's a beautiful show about the adventures and family life of a group of shapeshifting Tanuki. I can hardly do it justice in the limited space here. The Eccentric Family series is a bit, yes, eccentric, but it's also loads of fun, and has some moving and heartwarming moments.

4. Canaan

Would you like an action anime with international locations and characters, sci-fi, mystery, and bad-ass gunslinger girls? If so, you'll love this series about the mercenary and assassin known as Canaan, and her very cute best friend Maria. I wrote a review of Canaan on my other blog, so check it out if you're interested. Personally, I think the visuals and action scenes in Canaan are fantastic.

3. Nagi no Asu kara (A Lull in the Sea)

In recent years, NagiAsu has recieved increasing attention, but it fell under the under for a lot of people when it came out, and continues to be somewhat obscure. But this show definitely deserves more popularity and circulation. Genres include drama, fantasy, and romance. What I love most about it are the friendships and interactions of the characters. For more details, click this link.

2. Another

Looking for a spectacle? Another is a great horror anime with a mystery to solve, two relatively interesting main characters, and plenty of horrific deaths. The artwork and character designs look polished and memorable, and the music and sound effects are nearly perfect. I recommend Another to every horror fan. There is a story synopsis here

1. Angel Beats!

Angel Beats is a classic for the ages, in my opinion. Read about the story and setting here. The music is astounding, the artwork is fantastic, the characters are likeable and excellently developed, and the emotional story and deep themes never cease to amaze. On top of that, there's some great comedy, too. I recommend every anime fan try Angel Beats. You're especially likely to enjoy it if you're a fan of anime like Your Lie in April, Clannad, Death Parade, or Ano Hana.

This is 7mononoke of The Lost Otaku and Anime Rants, and I thank you so much for reading! :)

  3. While I can't argue with Angel Beats as number one, I'd have The Eccentric Family way higher on my list. I absolutely loved that anime. It was just so fun and sweet and heartbreaking. It was just lovely and the follow up season was pretty good as well.
