NTT Solmare’s Shall We Date? Obey Me: One Master to Rule Them All was released on December 12, 2019. You are a human partaking in a year-long exchange program within the Devildom with one other human and two angels—as a means for the three realms to live in harmony. While you are participating, you start to create pacts with the embodiments of the seven deadly sins as a means to help release one of the avatars of the seven deadly sins. There are two mysteries: why was that avatar locked up in the first place and why were you chosen to participate in this exchange? So far, there are 14 chapters, but they’re still working on adding more chapters within the game.
I was ecstatic when I found out that NTT Solmare had released a new game within their “Shall We Date” series. I was, honestly, slightly expecting them to go down the road that I was used to, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that they went a different direction with this new “dating sim” (I’m going to explain later on why I put that in quotations). The first thing I noticed was that there's actual animation and voice acting. Also, there's little to no bugs—which usually whenever I tried to play any of the previous games that the company had created, there were many bugs which made their games nearly impossible to even get past the opening screen. They also made sure to add the quests on the same map as the stories—but making sure that they were passable with how many points your team has, and not by chance.
There’s also many things that you can do within the game such as getting text messages and calls from the characters, buy items on Akuzon, read stories on Devilgram, level up your cards on Nightmare, and check your To-Do List. It also has an Easter Egg where if you try to delete an app, the character you choose will re-download the app while asking you why you deleted it in the first place. Overall, it holds a lot of promise—especially since there hasn’t been a single problem with the gameplay. The characters are also hilarious—especially since they’re brothers. The story starts off a bit slow (as many sim dates do), but it gets interesting the further on you go. You also don’t have to wait 24 hours to unlock a new chapter (or five), you can actually play for as long as you want (or can) throughout the day. I actually played for 9 hours which had me read about 6 chapters.
Now, there are a few things that kind of bothered me a bit while playing this game. There are times where you are given a “surprise guest” after a guest which is supposed to help raise your intimacy levels with one of the avatars of the seven deadly sins. At first, you can’t help but fangirl/boy about seeing them, but after a while, it does get tiring—especially when there are times where you’re supposed to give them an item of their interests (which you mostly have to buy at Akuzon with devil points if you want to give it to them). I’m also not sure if you can actually call this a dating sim. You don’t really choose a route to experience—in fact, you pass through the 14 available chapters without having an actual romantic experience and try to raise your intimacy levels with any of the 7 avatars of sin. This is more like a highly interactive visual novel if you ask me. That might change when they add the next chapters of the story, but for now, it just seems like a visual novel.
With that being said, I give Shall We Date? Obey Me: One Master to Rule Them All 3.5 paws out of 5 (which rounds up to 4 paws)! 🐾🐾🐾🐾 I’m really curious about how the story will continue since it has a lot of promise and chapter 14 stopped at a cliffhanger. At the time that I’m typing this, there’s an event where the characters become your butlers for the day. It’s really cute. The game is really interactive so you won’t be completely bored while playing it. I can’t exactly say that it’s a dating sim, but who knows if the ending depends on how high your intimacy level is with a certain character. That’s it for today. I hope you all enjoyed reading this. Until next time, keep your paws and bowls of ramen up, everyone! Nya! 🐾
